Command palette

Press Alt + Space (configurable) to open the palette from any app. Start typing to search apps, commands, settings pages and more, all at once.

How search works

Section titled “How search works”
  • English, romaji, hiragana, katakana, full-width and half-width all match.
  • English aliases find Japanese items (e.g. calculator → 電卓).
  • Initials work too.
  • Pin apps you use often to your favorites with Ctrl + D.
  • When nothing matches, the palette offers a Google search.

To-dos, memo and timers

URLs

Section titled “URLs”

Paste a URL to open it, copy it, or shorten and copy it. Shortening tries several services in turn.

Type dl <URL> to download a video as MP4 or its audio as MP3 (uses yt-dlp; enable it in settings first).

Windows

Section titled “Windows”
  • System commands — Lock, sleep, hibernate, shut down, restart, sign out, mute, toggle Wi-Fi / Bluetooth, empty the Recycle Bin, play / pause / next / previous track.
  • Window layout — Move the window you were using right before opening the palette: left / right / top / bottom half, quarters, thirds, center, maximize, almost maximize, or move it to the next display. Try left half, top right, maximize.
  • Windows Settings — display, sound, bluetooth, night light and so on open the matching page of the Settings app.
  • Kill a process — kill chrome (also taskkill) lists matching processes with their memory use, and force-quits the one you pick.
  • Shell commands — Start with / or ! to run the rest as a command. Example: / ipconfig /flushdns

Things you can add yourself

Register these in settings.

Type What it does
Snippets Canned text. Search it in the palette and Enter copies it.
Quicklinks URLs opened with keyword argument. {query} in the URL is replaced with the argument. Example: keyword gh, URL https://github.com/search?q={query}
Custom commands Named command lines.
Scripts .ps1 / .bat / .cmd / .exe files in the folders you register become searchable by file name.
File search folders Extra folders to search in addition to the default user folders (Desktop, Downloads, …).
